Towards degradable electronic systems for a digitalized agriculture
Digitalization is a megatrend in agriculture. Production processes control themselves, sensors detect stress situations, diseases or expected plant yields. Digitalization is both a challenge and an opportunity for agriculture. Precision farming, sensor-assisted disease diagnosis, soil analysis and crop monitoring are applications with strong growth potential, especially in terms of higher productivity, improved profitability and greater sustainability. Smart systems are becoming more and more important for those areas as miniaturization and integration of electronics and sensors is the key to cost reduction. Future electronic systems will be degradable, easy to install and maintenance free. Fraunhofer ENAS is working on this vision.
